Governor David Paterson came to Long Island to voice his support for the Lighthouse project at the Nassau Coliseum. The Governor was joined by elected officials from both parties, who joined with developers Wang and Rechler and labor leaders. Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi kicked off his remarks by calling the Lighthouse "a symbol of what New Suburbia should be." He also stressed the need to "stop playing defense [by holding on to the 50's and 60's] and start playing offense to make [Nassau County] even better."  Read More

Suozzi Opens Historic Nunley’s Carousel

On May 2, 2009 County Executive Tom Suozzi, Legislator Joe Scannell and Rachel Obergh re-opened Nunley's Carousel on Museum Row in Garden City, NY. Built in 1912, the carousel operated at Nunley's Amusement Park in Baldwin from 1940 to 1995. The county bought the carousel in 1998 and put it in storage until 2006, when Rachel Obergh, then 8, decided bring it back to life. Rachel's Pennies for Ponies group raised about $91,000 for the $485,000 restoration.  Read More
