Bringing Nassau Back From Bankruptcy
Before Tom Suozzi took office in 2002, Nassau County was rated the "Worst Run County" in America by the Maxwell School of Public Affairs. Under Tom Suozzi's leadership, that has changed and Nassau is now a model for local governments and municipalities.
Relieving New York's Property Tax Burden
Living on Long Island all his life, Tom Suozzi knows about high property taxes. That's why he has spent so much of his time in office fighting to reduce New York's systemic property tax problem. In 2008, Suozzi was appointed Chairman of the New York State Comission on Property Tax Relief by both Governors Spitzer and Paterson.
"New Suburbia" and Economic Development
Suozzi coined the term "New Suburbia", which is an innovative effort that targets smart growth to expand the tax base and enhances the quality of life.
Environmental Achievements
Named 2008 "Environmentalist of the Year" by the New York State League of Conservation Voters. NYLCV spokesman Dan Hendrick said Suozzi administrations dating back to his days as mayor of Glen Cove have been "a model for local sustainability efforts."
Green Levittown
Green Levittown is Tom's innovative idea to turn America's first suburban community into America's first green suburban community.
"No Wrong Door" - A National Model for Health & Human Services
