Nassau Legislature Expected to OK No-Tax-Increase Budget

The Nassau County Legislature is expected to approve County Executive Tom Suozzi's 2010 budget on Monday, which freezes property taxes and contains no new fees. It will also vote to authorize the sale of the 101-acre Grumman property in Bethpage, the site of a proposed mega-project that is expected to bring high tech jobs to Nassau County. (NEWSDAY)

Long Island’s County Executives: Schools Boost Property Taxes

Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi and Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy both said Tuesday that schools are a major cause of Long Island's high property taxes. "School property taxes are crushing residents," Suozzi said. "Since 2003, the schools' portion of the total tax bill in Nassau has risen from 58 percent to 65 percent, but the county's portion went from 22.7 to 16.4 percent." (NEWSDAY)

Poll: Majority of Long Islanders Back Wang’s Lighthouse Project

The majority of Long Island residents support the Lighthouse project, according to a recent poll by Newsday, News 12 Long Island and the Siena Research Institute. Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi has been a strong supporter of the project, which would renovate the Nassau Coliseum and develop the 77 acres surrounding the arena into affordable housing and retail space. Grand Opening Held at Jericho’s Equestrian Center at Old Mill

This week marked the grand opening of the Equestrian Center at Old Mill, a 40-acre property in Jericho purchased by Nassau County through the 2006 Environmental Bond Act. “Old Mill Horse Farm is another excellent addition to the portfolio of properties we have acquired that will benefit the public for generations to come,” said Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi.
