College Democrats of New York - Suozzi Delivers Keynote Address
Speaking to a room full of active young democrats from across New York State, Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi delivered the keynote address during the 2009 College Democrats of NY annual convention. During his remarks, Tom emboldened the audience to embrace the power they have in order to change the world. His message was to get involved, empower others to help you and to go out and just do it.
As evidenced by the Obama campaign this past fall, young people can certainly have an impact in elections, especially with the tremendous organizing power of the internet. Today's college kids are the first generation to grow up with the internet as part of their lives since grade school.
Tom discussed his involvement in politics as Mayor Glen Cove to Nassau County Executive and his primary run for Governor of New York. He also described the difficulty in running a government with a budget larger than 11 states and how running a government is much different and more restrictive than running a private corporation.
After his remarks, Tom fielded questions from the audience on local government, the MTA, environmental cleanup and his use of Twitter. It was an excellent event and Tom was very excited at the energy and enthusiasm from the audience. The future of New York is in their hands.
